1) How much does it cost to send a picture?
A: It's free. Yes, really. Keep in mind that standard text messaging rates apply, so your carrier may charge you for text messages you receive, but @pktpix doesn't charge you to send pictures.

2) I'm not in the United States, can I still use @pktpix?
A: Sure! @pktpix works worldwide, not just in the US. When sending pictures, make sure you use the correct country code to make sure your message reaches your friend's phone.

3) Where do I sign up?
A: You don't! You just send an e-mail to your phonenumber@pktpix.com, and we'll do all the legwork to get your picture to your friend's phone.

4) How big of an image can I send?
A: Not too big. :) But seriously, if your image is larger than 640x480 (or 480x640), we will automatically resize it to best fill an iPhone's screen.

5) Do my pictures have to be in a certain format?
A: Yes, you can currently only send JPEG pictures (filename ends in ".jpg") using pktpix.

6) I don't have an iPhone, can I still use it?
A: Sure, just attach a photo to your e-mail, and send.

7) My friend doesn't have an iPhone, can he/she still use it?
A: As long as they have Internet access, mobile web, or whatever fancy name the carriers are calling it, they can view your picture.

8) Do I need to "jailbreak" my iPhone or anything else that may potentially void my warranty?
A: No. This is all done without installing anything on your phone.

9) I sent a message, but my friend's phone never got a text message!
A: There are a number of reasons why this can happen.

a) You didn't send a valid JPEG picture (see #3)
We currently don't process any type of picture, other than JPEG.

b) You didn't attach a picture
@pktpix is all about sending pictures, not plain text.

c) You didn't put the @pktpix address in the To: field
If you put @pktpix address in the Cc: or Bcc: fields, your message will be ignored.

d) You have multiple addresses in the To: field
If you try to send to multiple people at the same time, your message will be ignored.

e) You sent e-mail from a non-working e-mail address
As silly as this sounds, it's sometimes true. If you make a typo in your e-mail client, all of your messages will go out with the wrong address. So, when our servers try to verify your e-mail address (to make sure you're not a spammer), the verification fails, and your message is rejected.

f) Your carrier is broken
Here's looking at you Helio and MetroPCS. Your carrier is mangling the address that goes out on your messages, and we can't verify it. We've made attempts to reach out to your folks, but have had no luck, so there's not much more we can do unless you complain to your carrier.

g) Our spam filter doesn't like your mail server
If you've been paying attention to items C-F, you'll see we take spam very seriously. I mean, who wants spam on their phone? So, we use a number of techniques to combat spam, and occasionally, we'll come across some misconfigured servers that don't respond to our verification methods properly. When that happens, the problem lies with the server you are using to send mail, and is out of our hands. Sorry.

10) How do I get in contact with you?
A: E-mail us at
lab@pktpix.com.

11) Are you going to start spamming me with ads?
A: No, we're not douchebags, wankers, or anything else of the sort. Spamming your own users is a good way to fail... hard.

12) Can I include a caption with my photo?
A: Sure! You have two ways of including captions: the subject and body of your e-mail to @pktpix.

If you enter your caption into the subject of your e-mail to @pktpix, the person viewing the image will see your caption in the title bar of their browser:

And if you enter your caption into the body of your e-mail, the person viewing the image will see your caption below the image:

If you do both, because you're caption-crazy like that, here's what it looks like...
